Hi there... I bought a new chandelier that is made to be hardwired. I want to turn it into a chandelier that can be plugged in instead. I bought the plug piece at the hardware store... now my only question is... what do I do with the ground wire on the chandelier? If I install the plug will the chandelier still need to be grounded??

Thanks for your help!

Why didn't you get a plug and wire that had a ground in it? Yes the light will should be grounded. This is a little odd. Is there not a ceiling junction box for the light?

No ceiling junction. I want to put a hook in the ceiling and hang it over my work table for extra lighting. I don't want to go through the hassle of getting a junction box installed. I just need a little extra light up above. The wire is already installed in the chandelier which is why I didn't get wire with a ground already in it.

Sounds like you used light weight wire often used for a swag or household extension cord, no 3rd wire for grounding. Either buy a cable with all 3 wires or use ungrounded, not really safe.
