I have a Whirlpool Gold washing machine, model number GSX9885JQO. In September 08, it stopped running. A repairman came out, and did something to at least get it through the cycle it was in. After that the washing machine would work sporadically - sometimes not at all - sometimes only the heavy load or quick wash setting and then sometimes I was not able to select size load or water temp. On the other hand, it would go for days running just perfectly. Most recently it did not run for 4 days and then today all of a sudden it gave me the choice of using heavy load, whitest whites, or quick wash, but I was unable to change load size or water temp. The repair man said it needs a new memory board ($250) and maybe a touch pad ($190) but he won't know if it needs the touch pad until he installs the new memory board. I'm not spending $500 to fix it as I can buy a new one for a little more. I really like this washing machine (when it works right) and am wondering if it could possibly be something else since it does work OK sometimes. I also wonder if there are any refurbished parts anywhere. This washing machine is only 8years old and I hate to think that I need a new one already. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Parts are expensive for sure. You just need to make the decission. Repair or replace. If both of those parts were bad on my washer I would just but a new one.

Hi. Thank you for your input. I did find the parts cheaper on-line with a 30-day return policy. I just wish I knew why it works sometimes and not the others. My dad said if it was the memory board, he doesn't think it would work at all. Last night I could do a load on the heavy wash cycle. Now this morning it doesn't work at all. It's crazy!
