Hi.
I have written to both the US consulate (Woodbridge) and also the UK Border agency about this. I have done Google searches and even a search on this forum. I am hoping someone can assist.

I am a British citizen moving back home after living in US for 6 years. Wife is US citizen. Baby daughter has British and US passport. Married 6 years.

Question: what does my wife need in order to come with me and live in the UK?
I believe it will either be the INF4 or the VAF4.

Can she come with me as a tourist, and then begin the application from the UK? Or should she apply first from the US and then travel to the UK ?

Many thanks for any helpful link, reply, or even hint!

(Woodbridge response to this question was "It is the applicant’s decision as to which category of entry clearance he or she would like to apply for." Which I found very vague indeed!)

Thanks,
DJ

"In some cases, we can give your husband, wife or civil partner permission to live permanently in the United Kingdom as soon as he/she arrives. To qualify for this, you must:

* have married or formed a civil partnership four years or more ago;
* have spent those four years living together outside the United Kingdom;
* now be returning to the United Kingdom to settle here together; and
* your spouse/partner must (unless aged 65 or over) have sufficient knowledge of the English language and about life in the United Kingdom.
