Im looking for info on adding a complete bathroom to my attic, my question
Is really about the drains, I want to ad a shower, tiolet, sink. There is a bathroom almost directly (about 3ft over ) below where I would like to put this. I was wondering if I can connect to the drains downstairs, or the vent pipe going through the attic. What is the best method. I was also wondering about what the normal pitch or drop a sink drain would need for a 10f run Away. If possible could some one draw something describing how to do this

Hey Rob,
If you're going to add a bathroom group the top floor's the easiest place to do it at. The neat part of it is you can use the same pipe for both the drain and the vent if the pipe is 3" or over.. This will mean cutting into the pipe and installing a sanitary tee for a drain and a inverted tee for a revent. Not knowing measurements or the fixture latout prevents me from making any drawings. You almost have to be there to do it.
What is the material the drainage pipes are made of?
On another note this isn't a little home project you're going into. It's considered major surgery. Do you have enough plumbing skills and tools to do the job? If you're doubtful it would pay you to get a plumber to lay the job out and make a material list. This would be a time and money saver on your part. BTW. The drainage slope is 1/4" to the foot. Your 10 foot drain would have to have 2 1/2" fall. Good luck, Tom

Thanks, for the post.. I have all the tools needed I think>> and what I don't have I will get. The pipes are all the old black cast iron pipes. I haven't really laid it out or anything I was wonreding also if they make a coupler or fitting change pipe kind. Thanks a lot

Like speedball said, major surgery, and that's if you are tieing into an existing ABS line.cast pipe is a different ball game.you have to make sure that the pipe is supported before you cut any where.Riser clamp where the pipe goes through the floor and perforated strap with screws or stove bolts to keep your existing grade.you will need a snap cutter if you can get it in there or a carbide sawsall blade to cut the pipe.the couplers will be a fernco {thick neopreen coupling with hose clamps on each end} I guess I could lay most of the job and material for a bathroom group but if your not a plumber it might not be that easy to understand.you may have to just pay a plumber to do it.
Again,, support the pipe before you cut.if the pipe is weak in another area it may drop.these are only my suggestions.hope I helped you somewhat. Shawn
