Being able to hear and see in Spirit while awake or in prayer, could this be a gift , and what kind of gift would it be?:D also sometimes when meeting people I can feel their different pains in their life. And I don't even know them, what kind of gift could this be. Also sometimes knowing what kind of spirit is opperating. Maybe someone would know what these gifts are. One of them might be disernment of spirits.

Read Galation 5 in the Bible. You will be able to read all the gifts of the Spirit in that chapter.

In his letter to the Galatians, Paul describes various gifts. But his point was that there are all sorts, that different people manifest different gifts and talents. I don't think he meant to say his list was comprehensive, and the only kinds that could ever exist were the ones he listed. Quite the opposite, Paul believed in the power of the Spirit to "make all things new."

I'm not sure how to answer the question of what "kind" of gift you have. You have your own gift, and the gift is as unique as you are. No one else has had just quite the mix of talents and abilities you have, nor just the set of experiences and training that you apply to those gifts. The gift, or charism if you like that word, is unique for you, special for you.

With any kind of gift or talent, whether it be something spiritual (some people might use the term psychic or magical, but since it sounds like you come at it from a Christian perspective, you would probably language it more in terms of the presence of the Holy Spirit), or a gift for painting or music or medicine or auto mechanics, the way to make the gift work its best is first to be willing to name and claim it for yourself, to be willing to say without hesitation, "I am a Healer," or "I am a Dreamer," or whatever you have. I like "discernment of spirits." That's not a bad way to frame it in words. If you say that to yourself, "I have the gift of discernment of spirits," and then accept that this gift comes from God and that God calls you to use the gift in service to Him and your neighbors, then the Spirit will guide you to learn more about your gift and develop it, and use it wisely.

A word about wise use: Respect the boundaries of people you meet. If because of your gift, you sense certain things about a person or the person's past or whatever, respect that person's privacy. Do not try to help the person unless the person asks for help, and do not reveal what the gift told you to anyone else--the person is entitled to his or her secrets.

Here's a good saying to say to yourself frequently: To hear, one must be silent.

Be willing to just sit quietly and let the Spirit speak to you. It is often a quiet voice, and it can take years to fulfill itself. Silence and patience do a world of good.

Blessings to you.

So true, the last time the spirit of dicernment came on me was when I greeted a lady I didn't know. She didn't know but I felt the compassion for her and wanted to bust out intears. I kept it to myself left her quickly because I didn't want to cry in her face... because she would have then asked me what was wrong.. You have very good insight thank you Alder!

Spirit of discernment is great but be cautious of seeing and hearing spirits because some can be deceptive.

Yep. It can be a real challenge for people who are very sensitive like us. Sometimes we pick up a vibe from someone so strongly, it can be very awkward or unpleasant. I'm a lawyer in my day job, and, naturally, some of the people who come to see me bring a lot of anger and fear and hurt with them. Sometimes after a meeting, I have to just stand up and shake like a dog to shake all of it off me. Some people I know wash it off, wash off their hands and wrists with water and shake the droplets off. It can be a balancing act, to have valid boundaries about our souls but not walls that shut us off from everyone. Staying grounded, staying connected to the Divine (regardless of your particular faith tradition), is key.

And you're welcome. Glad what I said was helpful. Peace.
