If you have a client who moves their home-based business from New Jersey to New York on May 1, 2007 which state is supposed to get their payroll income taxes and when?

1st quarter taxes were filed (NJ927 and WR30) and maxed out, so in the second quarter nothing was owed on the NJ927. The NYS45 showed no taxable wages for payroll.

Do they pay state unemployment to NY or do they pay in NJ or both?

Please help!

Thanks,

AF

You need to contact either the respective state tax authorities or a tax service who does employment taxes for both states.

Logically, it would seem that the unemployment taxes would be pro-rated based on the moving date.

The income taxes will be paid based on the moving date (NJ prior to 1 May 2007; NY on and after 1 May 2007).

QUESTION: WHY are you doing employment taxes from LAST year?
