hi jay,
the percentage is always counted from 100. That is if u get 7 out of 10 then percentage = 7/10*100.70%
idea of percentile is some what diff. it is what we call as CGPA and is always from 10. Like 7/10 then 7 is your percentile. Do u want to know the calculation of percentile??

Percentage is a fraction stated in parts per 100- thus x% means x/100.

Percentile is a measure of ranking of ascending order within a population, describing the percentage of the population with lower scores.

Here's an example - suppose you take a test and get 8 out of 10 questions correct. Also, suppose there were 100 people in your class and 60 scored lower than you while 39 scored higher. Then you got 80% correct, and are at the 60th percentile of the class.
