My boyfriend and I have been together since my son was around 6 months old. His biological father left the country to escape prosecution for breaking and entering and attempted rape. He pays no child support, can't see the child for obvious reasons and my boyfriend would like to adopt "our" son to protect his ability to see the child. I have no clue how to start the process or even if my ex-husband will give up his rights. Any ideas on how I should go about this?

I don't believe an unmarried couple can adopt a child any State.
You also can't strip the father of his rights - in this case you will need an Attorney if you attempt to do so because the father is out of the country.

Why would your boyfriend feel that his ability to see your son needs protecting?

Are there plans for you and the boyfriend to split up?
Most areas want you to be married for one year,
But you will hire an attorney, since the bio father is a wanted and you don't know where he is, it should not be hard to get the addoption approved
