I have a Kenmore dryer. The door lever works just fine, as the light turns off and on when you depress it. The problem is when I push and hold the start button it makes a clicking noise but does not power on. Is this a sensor? Is this an expensive fix??

Skyle1- There is four other things that could be the cause of your poblem ( ONE OF THEM)
#1 - No power at wall receptical:: #1a-
Check The fuses or the breakers::: # 2 - if the cord is a ( 3 wire cord _ then the 2 outside wires ,are the hot wires , you will test
OPEN Circuit in the power cord<:: #2a -Check::: THE TWO OUTSIDE WIRES:::To test the terminal block - REmove the screws and
And test the power cord & Terminal block , If
Defective replace:: #2B- To test them - REmove the two screws holding the cover plate over the terminal block access, Take a ' jumpper wire and clip to each one of the outside wires of the cord:: SET THE METER TO ( RX1 Scale) now connect one prob from the meter to each of the outside , plug blades and you have a reading of " ZERO " then the cord isis good :: TAKE the cord and sort of roll it from one end to the other while testing< if the reading ,Is " ZERIO " then the cord is good but if it reads high or jumps around ,then cord is faulty and needs replaced . :: #3- If there are burnt terminals <it will be discollard And the leads ( WIRES ) will be Chared,If there are burnt and chared ,then replace the cord :: #4- Test the START switch - reMOVE THE CONTROL PANEL ,cHECK FOR BURNT WIRES < nOW MAKE SURE THE OHM METER IS STILL SET TO -RX1 scale:: #4a- REMOVE the Heavy wires from the switch terminals, Clip the meter probs to the switch terminals , Now PRESS THE SWITCH BUTTON < IF THE METER READING IS " ZERO " THEN THE SWITCH IS GOOD <IF IT IS HIGH <THEN IT IS DEFECTIVE < REPLACE:: # 5 - to test the TIMER SWITCH, Disconnect one of the wires comeing to the switch, :: #5a- Clip a prob from the meter to each one of the switch terminals , Turn the switch to " NORMAL DRY
IF meter reading is " ZERO' the switch is good , If high reading then it is defective < REPLACE ::
#6 -Make sure that all the WIRES that you took loose are " RECONNECTED" when you put it back togreather , ( I DO HOPE YOU FOUN THE CULPRIT) and have it reparied , I have the feeling that you found the Start swich <DEFECTIVE : AND NOW HAVE A RUNNING DRYER :: GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A BETTER DAY TOMORROW < AND GOD BLESS ::: F.B.E.
