OK, I'm drawing a blank on what to do for my lovely wife for Christmas, so how about tossing your ideas this way... what would YOU really like for Christmas from your husband/wife/significant other?

I think a weekend getaway for the two of you is a great idea and it benefits you as well as her.
(Even if it is not very far away)

Ask her about her Childhood around Christmastime, any traditions she did, foods she ate, etc..

Then go from there

I take it you've already maxed out on gifts for whatever hobby she has.

I have... short of actually getting my wife a horse.

Honestly ; we plan weekend getaways frequently . With her mom living with us she needs the time away . Also the jewelry idea works almost every time. Not very imaginitive I guess , but it is something of value they always have . I go through catalogues like Danbury Mint and pick up something that is not your standard run of the mill jewelry .

For Sapph :

http://www.danburymint.com/ImageViewer.aspx?Path=%2fsecure%2fContent%2fImages Products%2f7055-0017_z.jpg&Width=135&Height=0

But it is probably too late to order now and get it on time unless you shell out $$$ for overnight deliveries.

Yep, the jewelry thing always works well. I have long built collections for her from a regional favorite, James Avery. This is my fallback item, she has the earrings (and loves them) and needs to complete the set:

Petite Blossom Ring with Pink Sapphire (http://secure.jamesavery.com/jewelry/search/product/R-1387PS/Petite-Blossom-Ring-with-Pink-Sapphire/)

Still, throw out your ideas folks. Your creativity may help others as well.

ARUGULA!! Just kidding :) How about a really nice Digital Camera. I like the Nixon CoolPix P80. Less then 300 bucks and takes great pictures. Or they have the new touch screen Nixon CoolPix S60.

Cameras aren't really her thing but I do think she'd love a Blackberry, I just don't like the monthly bill that comes along with it. She'd LOVE the arugula, and then smack me upside the head for not buying the diamond, too :D

Thanks, that would be awesome and we'd both enjoy that. But unless tomder puts us up for the weekend it's a bit out of my price range for now. I do have a 25th anniversary coming up in June, though ;)

Yeah the monthly bill is a killer. Like with AT&T if you get a regular phone they charge you 15.00 dollars for unlimited data plus the voice plan . IF you get a blackberry same plan is $30.00 plus the voice plan.

A coupon book - of random "things" you'll do for her...

Clean the bathrooms...
Wash the dishes...
Night out...
... other creative gestures...

It's a thought! :)

Gee, another awesome idea for the average husband. I don't clean the bathroom that much but I often wash the dishes, I do a lot of laundry, dust occasionally, do the floors about half the time and I do most of the cooking. Maybe I need a coupon book from her? ;)

By the way, all awesome ideas everyone... keep 'em coming.

This may sound strange but how about a Tivo? I got one last year and my Fiancé uses it more then I do. She records all the shows that might be on when she is at work and If I am watching the eagles or something like that she can record what she wants to watch while I am watching the game. Once the game is over she watches all her stuff.

They are about 300 bucks (Or you can get a refurbished one from Tivo for $179.00) plus you will need to rent cable cards from your cable provider they usually charge about 5 bucks a month for the cards. You don't need their cable box anymore so your cable bill goes down a little bit. They do charge 12.95 for the Tivo service. But you can pay for the entire year all at once and it equals out to about 10.95 a month.

Get her a book about how to win at Fantasy Football... oh wait... never mind... she's got that down pat already . Love it, Spit. We have 2 Dish DVR's and I think they're handier than a big flat screen TV could ever be for sports fans... or if you just like to watch endless airings of A Baby Story. I know, it's starting to sound like what do you get for the girl who has everything? She really doesn't have everything but I love all the ideas and maybe they'll help some other shopping challenged person out there, too.

A maid for a week.

A day at the spa.

A framed picture of you and/or your kids---a NICE frame.

A picture of her favorite place, professionally framed and matted.

Jewelry is good, but personalize it. Get a ring engraved with "your" saying (ours are strange, so I can't give you an example of ours, but something like "love you forever and a day" or "you are my heart's desire" or whatever silly thing you sign cards with)

Lessons for something she's always wanted to try--skydiving, belly dance, cooking, pottery, whatever--that you can usually get from your local community college.

A night on the town--dinner, play, a day at the casino, or race track or a cruise on a local river or the Holiday Train or whatever you can find locally that's OUT and NOT something you normally do.

Something along the lines of the 12 days of Christmas.

Doing something every day for the 12 leading up to Christmas day.

Early gifts are gifts.timing these 12 'deeds' would be a spontaneous way to intrigue the relationship(hopefully in YOUR favor... lol)

Starting with the little things, like dusting... etc

Leading up to a really big one(your discretion)

Dec 16, 2008, 12:04 PM
I like KBC's idea.

We get to a point where we buy ourselves everything we need/want. I think giving the gift of your time with her is the best idea. Can you remember some things you did when you were dating? Recreate one or two of those dates.

Also... Write her a letter. Tell her everything you love and admire about her. Put it on nice stationary and tie it up in a pretty ribbon. I guarantee she will treasure that more than any other gift you could buy.

Dec 16, 2008, 12:19 PM
Super, can we change it to the 9 days of Christmas? That would givwe me fewer things to think of. ;)

I like the letter idea, or could be done with a Power Point presentation or picture CD/DVDthat could be played back on the TV. Keep 'em coming folks... y'all are pretty sharp.

My husband once gave me a "book" entitled Remember When... he went through 10 important things in our life and ended with our first get away weekend as husband and wife. He then told me he was going to recreate that weekend... 3 weekends later we were back at the same hotel we were at 2 years before.

How about a game of "I love you more than..."?

You could do something like the 12 days of Christmas, but with things like a small decorative bottle of sand, with a tag that says "I love you more than...." on the outside, and on the inside says, "all the grains of sand in all the world"

Which could culminate in a diamond with "all the stars in the sky" on the inside.

Synnen, we may butt heads from time to time but that's an outstanding idea. I even have a bottle of sand from a visit to the beach we took a few years back. Thanks.

I hope you have lots of things you love her more than--because I think she'll love it.

That's a great attitude, one I share :)

I hope you have lots of things you love her more than--because I think she'll love it.

I know she'll love it, but I don't want to share too many yet. 3 1/2 weeks after Christmas is her birthday followed by 3 1/2 weeks to Valentines Day. That's another reason I’m fishing for ideas.

Here's what I think I’ll do, a game of ''I love you more than" beginning with "I love you more than...." on the outside, and on the inside says, "all the grains of sand in all the world" with the aforementioned beach sand in a small sandstone container from World Market. Packed in the sand will be this simple ring (http://secure.jamesavery.com/jewelry/search/product/R-81/Cross-with-Heart-Ring/) with the message, “cross my heart.”

I want uggs. Uggs are so comfy and I talked my boyfriend into wanting a pair. He always hated them but he tried on a co-workers and fell in love with them!! My boyfriend also wants movies.

A good idea is a blu ray player though. They look amazing! And blu ray movies went down in price . You could also buy a ps3 he can game and watch blu rays!

Good luck with your shopping!!

A cell phone is on the horizon here, our contract is up and I'm still pondering that Blackberry. On that note, who has a cell phone they love that's good for texting but isn't a smart phone?

And by the way, I'd love an Xbox 360 so I can finally play Halo 3... but I'm actually asking for new dog beds (for my gift... really) for our two girls.

Ugss are the greatest thing ever created!! They are so comfy and warm and they last forever!! def. look into them, they run big though so I would suggest getting a size smaller hen she really is. I'm usually a size 8 in uggs I wear a kids 6 or adult 7. I have 3 pairs myself... 2 boots and one clog style. She will love them!

Given that you have more holidays coming up...

Go to www.blurb.com; you can make your own book. Get pictures from your past (dating, wedding, kids, etc), your present (the holidays, recent vacations, stuff over the past year or so), and end with the future. Future can be vacation destinations, photoshopped pics of you both old and wrinkly, etc. Or, you can write about how you want your future to play out.

If you don't like that theme, do something else - her favorite pics, for example.

Once you finish the book it takes less than two weeks to order, print, ship, and be delivered to your door. I made a small one (the 7X7 size) of a recent vacation, and it turned out great.

ETA: If you want to see my book, send me a PM, I'll e-mail you the link.
