I moved down to Florida with my children and my baby's ex. A year after we moved down, my ex moved in with his 18 male friend and started partying. He hasn't seen our kids nor spoke to them. I recently got full custody of them plus child support. The father states he never wants to see them or pay anything for htem. He wants me to allow him to sign over his rights. I am in the middle. I am unemployed full time student. I feel he needs to be responsible for helping me take care of them financially but i don't want him taking the kids out of state. I k now if he ever wants to see the kids it will be to make me angry or to force me to let him sign over his rights. I don't know what to do. My aunt keeps telling me she got her ex for abandonment but he still has to pay child support. I have researched and i can not locate anything to that nature. Abandonment means signing over the parental rights?

I am in Florida. Is there anything like that in Florida. My kids don't even know who their father is. I can show them a picture and they don't know him. I have to tell them that is their father. Somebody please help me.

He can not just sign over his rights, and most likely the courts would not allow him to if he wanted to.

Normally just not seeing the kids or not paying support is not enough to take away his rights.

So make sure you enforce his child support order and make him pay.

With regard to your question about abandonment, I have never heard that abandonment means signing over your parental rights. Abandonment is when a child is left alone or unattended. I believe that he should still have to pay child support even if he doesn't want to see his kids and he cannot relinquish his parental rights just to get out of support.
