You get insured by calling insurance companies and buying an insurance policy.

Licensing - NYC Department of Consumer Affairs.

Hi, nandillon!

Are you sure that you need to be licensed to do that where you'll be working? Around where I live and work a person doesn't have to be licensed to be a painter.

Also, how much experience do you have working for others to make a profit for yourself doing painting for others?

Thanks!

Yes, you do in NYC for certain types of construction/repair/remodel work. Painting - from my research is included.
