Please can someone help I have a Renault Clio elise T reg, I am unable to get into any gear except 5th gear of which it does drive in 5th gear, I was told that the gearbox had gone so I got another one (2nd hand)had it but in and still the same problem, I cannot believe that two gearboxs have the same problem.
Could someone advise or tell me if they know what it could be?
Many thanks Cdjsford:confused:

Bon joir. I drive Renault/Citreons, when I travel in France. I love those cars. My suggestion, from afar, is to check the hydraulic clutch for air. It can be difficult to purge all of the air from the system, if it's opened or bled improperly. This can prevent the clutch from fully disengaging and make shifting impossible. A pressure bleeder will make the job easier, though not required.
There is also a stronger possibility the synchros are gone in both gearboxes. Not all lubricants adequately protect the soft yellow metals in synchros and they can wear out fast, especially since many people drive those cars hard. If the clutch does work, try "double clutching" and see if you can shift into other gears. This is where you depress the clutch, shift into neutral, release the clutch (allowing everything to synchronize at the same speed), depress the clutch again, shift into the new gear, and release the clutch. If this allows you to shift, the synchros are shot.
Au revoir.
