Old movie about a poor family, Mom had 3-5 kids she had a red jacket. The husband was away and would send her letters and sometimes money. The oldest boy, around 9 years old maybe, got a job at a cole mine, the boy got an infection in his eyes. He wanted to go to the movide theater but needed to get paid first. Due to the infection when he got to go to the movies, he asked his friend to described what was happening because he could not see.
Later, the husband returned, got the wife pregnant and they had another baby. They got an old mattress for them to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night with their bodies itching. The mattress had bed bugs. They dragged it outside in the cold weather and beat the mattress. Later the new baby died.

Sorry, don't have much more details but it's an old movie and never got to see the beginning or the ending. Would like to find out so I can rent it and see it all.
