I had my wisdom theet (3) removed about 6 days ago. I knew right after the surgery that one lower one must have made problems since it hurt by far more than the other two extraction sites. I had a little swelling and some pain but about on the 2nd to 3rd day my jawbone (under side), throat and neck started to swell and I have a constant and massive pain. The swelling is quite hard and it concerned me. So I went back to see the Oral surgeant and he had a qick look at the extracion site only (the swelling is not at the cheek but underneath my jawbone and throat). He said that I have an infection and gave me a new perscription to more than double the amont of antibiotics I am taking. So, I take these high dosis of antibiotics since a day and a half but the infection seemes only to get worse. The Vicadin and Ibuprofen last for about 4 hours and then the pain is unbarable again. Should I go back to the surgeant or should I go straight to the ER in the hospital? How long should it take for theantibiotics to kick in?

The antibiotics could take about 24-48 hours (someties longer)to kick in. Make sure you are taking the ibuprofen as directed. You might want to alternate the Advil with Tylenol every 2 to 3 hours.
If you have a fever then I'd go to the ER.

I would suggest the ER.They are better suited to deal with extensive care such as you may require.

I had to grimace when I read your post... poor thing!

Best of luck!
