I am in the process of redoing my house. It looks magnificent but needs a final touch. My contractor suggested classy lighting, perhaps a chandelier in the dining room or foray. Does anyone know wher eI could find an affordable chandelier? Everything I am finding online is too expensive or too cheap looking... Thanks.

Chandeliers are hard. Often they are very expensive if you want a nice crystal one. My suggestion is going down to the Bowery, to the lighting district and checking them out in person, to see what you are paying for. There is a place called Lighting by Gregory (http://lightingbygregory.com/). They have some of the better stuff, for some pretty affordable prices. Good luck!

Habitat for Humanity has stores that sell used building materials, you can often find new and used lighting at very good prices. Also if you have a Menards near you, they often have nice affordable lighting. They are similar to Home Depot and Lowe's but better IMO. Things are usually more pricey from a showroom.
Lastly, consider a ceiling fan :)
I'll add, I don't care for chandeliers in most settings myself, nor do I like ceiling fans with attached lights. It's an entirely different style, but I think track and/or recessed lighting can add a more modern touch of class, compared to the basic fixtures many homes have installed. And I also find it is much more effective lighting than indirect fixtures when used properly. Just my opinion.
