I have a frigidaire top loading washer that has developed a strange noise when aggitating and now I have water coming out underneath in the front area on the floor. This washer is 6 years old. I was told it might be the transmission going out.The washer is model1233 galaxy

Water leaking from the front area of the machine indicates the pump. This is an easy thing to fix and a relatively cheap part. You will only have to remove the top console and main cabinet. Check the thing that has two hoses coming from it: one comes from the tub, and the other goes to the back. If the water seems to be puddled right in that area, it's probably the pump. If it's all over the floor, try to look up under the machine around the tub area to see any leakage. That would indicate a tub seal.
Do this right after you run a load. Unplug the machine and turn off the hoses. You may have to take off the "end caps" off the control console to access two small screws on each side of the bottom. After taking those screws out, the console will lift. Then remove the two large gold clips that hold the cabinet to the back. Put a screwdriver down in clip in the very front hole and push slightly away from you. The clips should pop out. You should now be able to get the cabinet off by tilting it towards you, then up and back. You might have to remove a few more screws in the back if necessary.
The pump is in the very front bottom of the machine, help on by two long metal "strap"-like things.
If water leaked from the tub seal it may have gotten into the transmission, but this is still a fairly new machine. Unless something got down between the 2 tubs and tore up the seal, the transmission should be OK. I need to know if the washer still goes through the spin cycle OK. Or if you can see any water from up underneath the tub itself.
