I rodded the sink out by with a hand rodder it worked till my wife did the wash the next day.
Now the rodder won't open it. It goes in 25 feet with no kinks. I hear it turning in the pipe and still nothing . When I put the trap pipes back & fill it with water it dose not work. What do I do?:( I even rented a rodder from a home store.

Larry, (rodder,Snake?)can you see any main 3 inch sewer lines in the basement and what. Is it a kitchen sink os a bathroom sink. How much water is poured in the sink before it backs up again. Does it eventually drain down? What are the elevations of the sink and laundry machine? It could be a clog at the Y or T where the sink drainage connects to the main 3" sewer line. Is the line P.V.C. or cast iron? Or both? Is your sink Vented?

Hi Lary,
Respond to Tom, I am sure he will ask to rod it from roof vent down and 15-20 feet extra, Thanks.

The house is a try level. Kitchen in main floor. The clean out is in the utility closet 5 steps down off the main floor. I see the up stares plumbing drain from bath room up stares but it is two high to be from the kitchen.
There is a pipe that comes out of the floor where the sink in the laundry room it is P.V.C. in the floor then at 3 1/2 foot up it cast iron I think it may be a vent pipe.
When I drained the pipes before rodding them out we got a gallon or so of water 1/2 bucket.
Should I try to rod out the laundry room sink . I took the sink out to try to rod out what I now think is the vent. So I can get to the drain now.

There are 2 stacks on the roof one to each washroom the low stack goes the basement
Jon, washers and kitchen sink I think. I snaked / rodded the utility sink . Like I said the other 3 sinks , shower & tub work great. Rodding the stacks is something you do when the main is clogged and you can't find a clean out . I also rodded from the floor drain 30 feet. I put a gallon of clean out down it each year but didn't this year so I am adding it tonight.
