Dear Help Desk,

My wife is aged 30. She is not having regular periods. We consulted a doctor. He says it is pre menopause and that eggs are not being formed in her ovaries, hence she cannot be pregnant. He also said that at the time of birth the number of eggs in the ovaries are defined (is it true) and that once the eggs are over a woman cannot get pregnant.

Suggest.

Yes, women are born with the eggs they will carry through life. How did the doctor detemine she was in perimenopause? Thirty is quite young for perimenopause, but it does happen.

If she has not gone through actual menopause... usually considered once a woman goes a full year without periods, pregnancy may still be a possibility. Depending on the situation it may not be easy and may benefit from some medical assistance.

I don't know what sort of testing they may have done, but perhaps you can discuss with the doctor possible means to help since she is still having some periods. Some women do get help with having more regular periods and with stimulating the release of the eggs that are still there... maybe that would be something to ask the doctor about. Depending on where you are, more advanced medical assistance with something such as invitro fertilization may be an option.
