I have a byrant furnace model 395b - the inducer motor fan squeals and I was wondering if it should be repalced or can I oil it and how? The furnace company wants $100 to look at it and I was wondering if I could do it myself!

If you are handy you might be able to oil it. Most of those do not have oil holes so you would have to carefully drill the end and near the top to allow the oil to get to the bearings. If it is the type of motor that can be taken apart you can carefully take it apart and lube up the sleve bearings and shafts.

We've had our furnace for quite a long time and had to replace the draft inducer fan a couple years ago when it had about the same symptoms as you describe.

Those fans just have oilite bushings (they run quieter than ball bearings) which eventually dry out and then the motor will start slowly and won't run fast enuf to create enough airflow and then the pressure switch(s) won't pass voltage to the control.

Before I discovered they were widely available over the internet either from discount HVAC supply places or over eBay, I paid over $200 from the
Dealer. Then I discovered I could have gotten the same thing for under $100 over eBay.

I have a problem witch is odd but your above answer may have give me some help. I have been having trouble with me furnace... Originally I had to replace my control brd because no voltage to the igniter ( glow plug)... now that works fine... furnace runs throght the cycle fine. Now, after letting everything run for a few days I finally started putting the covers on. It runs through the cycle but with any of the covers the furnace or brd I should say senses a ( I believe) pressure problem and after lighting it shuts down. First it blew a 34 code... but seems to just blow a 33 code now. I was suggested to cleam the flame senser which was that dirty but I cleaned it anyway... still... Cover off it work fine.. covers on it blows the 33 code. Even it I put the cover with the slits in it the code blow.. real touchy. I have adaquite ventally in the furnace room... floor to craw space has a cut in the floor insure this and no problem in the past. I look at the chimmney but hard to see but I don't sense it is blocked but not sure. No problem with my carbon dioxide sensors. The inducer fan has made a little rattle noise the last few years but still has been working OK... I think... mayit is not push enough air now and the pressure switched now this. Don't know. By the way, when I remove the covers and shut to main switch off to reset the furnace... all works just fine. Do you or anyone know how I can find out it something is block or if the inducer is just not pushing enough? I did take the inducer motor off and looked at it... nothing really bent but it does make a little rattley noise. I'm a bit puzzeled on this... afraid it will finally fail completely... any suggestion..?
