In the late 1990's to early 2000's, I saw a TV movie just before Christmas (likely Canadian) about a young, troubled, married couple facing financial problems. She baked pies and sold them to the townspeople to make extra money to pay off overdue bills. The wife's car broke down and she spent the night in a beat up old truck with a candle to keep warm. The husband fell through the ice out in the middle of no where and was in the frigid water for hours yelling for help. No one came but he managed to pull himself out and made it home to soak in a hot bath. In the end, they both realized what the true meaning of Christmas was and that it didn't matter whether they had material things to give each other.
