Hi,
My dog has started to have seisure like episodes with intermitent loss of consciousness.
The seizure follows a cough that is triggered by excitement, like when getting ready for a walk or getting ready to go for a ride in the car.
What could possibly be happening?
Could it be related to a dewarming pill I gave her two days ago?
She's had a seisure yesterday and one today.
She had never had this type of episode before.
Thank you
Kjra

Do you not think it would be a good idea to take the dog to a vet?

People online here can give an idea but this dog needs a vet

HI, I found the answer to this, at least in part. I have been informed by my last vet that this symptom is most likely to be heart related. In my pooch's case, it was allergy induced. The allergic reaction is acompanied by an acceleration or irregularity of the heart rate, this in turn, induced the cough (body's natural mechanism to regulate heart rate) that ultimately culminated in an extreme arritmia and perhaps a convulsion (after further acceleration of the heart due to excitement) that knocked her out. Interesting huh?

Sounds like epilepsy. I've seen similar things in an epileptic cat.

Kejoriap... your answer makes a lot of sense. My dog has done this also lately, and he does have some heart issues. He sees the vet regularly, and I've known about his heart issues for a while, but never saw him coughing/seizing till recently. I guess it's back to the vet to figure out what to do. He's an older dog, so I know he can't take too much excitement.
