If he is eating wet food, this may not be an issue. If he is eating dry food, then I would take the dog to the vet. Furthermore, I would get a bowl that can't be tipped, it could be your dog is spooked by his reflection or some other dog weirdness that happens from time to time.

Take your dog to the vet no matter what, a change in behavior at 9 years old could be a sign of something else happening.
