I tried to post this question before but I guess it didn't happen. I have the electrical meter in my basement and the meter lady doesn't get to read it often because I am never at home when she comes around. I was told that with Con Ed's permission an electrician can install cables from the meter in the basement to the outside so that Con Ed can read the meter from outside. Is this correct?

Not that I have ever seen. I have seen that with water meters, but that's a different animal.

I went to Con Edison: - Con Edison Company of New York (http://www.coned.com) and did a search for remote meter reading.

Does not say much, but it tells me that something is available.

Contacting Con Ed directly would be recommended for the best answer.

I contacted Con Edison yesterday and I was told that they do remote reading in certain areas (including mine). However, there has to be extenuating circumstances for e.g. persons who are disabled. I told her I was not disabled but am usually not at home when the meter lady comes around for reading so that for the most part I receive estimated readings. She told me she will have my siguation reviewed and get back. Thanks again TK I will let you know how it turns out for the benefit of anyone out there who might have the same problem.
