I just moved into a single story house were in the moutains. When I looked at the place in summer I liked it because it was very cold in the summer and no air conditioner on. It does have a swamp cooler which I just bought a canvas cover for it. The house is averaging about 54 degrees in daytime right now when outside might be a tad warmer.

I don't know whatelse to do other than move. I bought 2 small room heaters and after 3 weeks my 1st bill was $120 the furnace runs on propane and I have ebeen told seeing it is a 1979 unit that donb't use it or will suck up propane a lot.

If there are room heaters than run cheaper please help with that too. Never lived in Mtns before and it has n't even snowed yet.

Hope someone can help.
Thanks

Replace the old inefficient gas guzzling unit with a more efficient one. Also sorry but $120 bill for the month ain't bad

I think I would check the insulation. And you said you bought a new cover for the Air conditioner, well it needs more than a cover. You should have a damper in the duct somewhere that will cut off the air conditioner completely from the ducts being used to heat the house. This should be a damper that you open in summer and close in the winter.

The old furnace at least could be used at night or in the early morning to take the freezing tempature off the house.
