Does anyone know if contact sports mouthpieces (like for football etc) be used to protect ones tongue during an epileptic seizure?

According to the NSE, The National Society for Epilepsy (http://www.epilepsynse.org.uk/PAGES/info/leaflets/seizures.cfm#facts), No. Nothing should ever be put in a person's mouth during a seizure.

The wording in the question was off : in that the seizures I was referring to are partial seizures that happen during sleep and are not like grand mal seizures. The seizures only cause fairly small tongue sores from chewing. The problem is similar to "teeth grinding" problems that many non-epileptic people have.

Sportsguards are not secure enough. If someone was to have a seizure with one in their mouth they would be at risk of choking on it.

Never put something in the mouth of a person having a seizure. Rather, turn them on their side.
