Hi, I am worried because when I was 19 I worked bining motor parts (brake shoes) and parts containing asbestos ). I only done it for 2 years but I am scared I have damaged my lungs in the process not knowing at the time about the asbestos in car parts .

The mechanics took them off and all the parts where in a heap and I binned them. How dangerous are brakes pads once they have been removed from the car.etc.etc

Please help!

The main danger with asbestos comes from breathing the dust. So unless you were throwing the break pads around causing the brake dust to become airborne and then walking through the cloud over and over everyday then you should be fine. Honestly the whole asbestos scare is really been blown out of proportion. I fyou are worried the only real way to know is to go to your doctor.

Is there a parts cleaner unit in the shop. Where they use a cleaning solution. In a mechanics shop that is normally the most dangerous thing there. *** because I have never been in a shop where it was used properly. Litle risk from the brakes. But you may be able to ask for a breathing mask
