I have pet rabbits in my house and I try to be as green as possible. But I heard that putting vailla extact in their water will do the trick. Do you know the ratio? And will it truly work? Thanks!

It is natural for animals to excrete nitrogenous compounds. The nitrogen comes mostly from proteins that get broken down in the body. Breaking down proteins is caused by being alive and animals MUST excrete nitrogen in some form, usually urea in mammals. You cannot stop that.

However, a high protein diet will result in more urea than a low protein diet. But don't give them less protein than they need to be healthy. Also, if they are dehydrated, their blood will contain more urea than normal, so give them plenty of water or vegetables that contain lots of water.

Bottom line, once the urea gets outside their bodies and contacts the air, it turns into ammonia automatically. Nothing you feed them will stop them from excreting urea, which turns into ammonia in the bottom of the cage. Regular cleaning is the only solution. :(

Or adequate air cleaner, one which neutralizes the ammonia.
