I have a house on a slab in the North East. I want to remove the carpet and treat the concrete floors to be a finish product. I am not looking for paint finish. I was thinking about acid stain and I heard someone had actually used shoe polish and buffed it to make it look like granite or stone. Any ideas or tips?

I think this is what you are looking for, but don't think they used shoe polish !

I found this on Google using 'staining concrete', along with a lot of other sites regarding treating concrete to make spectacular floors, You may find one that is local to you and more accessible for advice.

Acid staining is probably the easiest since you don't have to acid etch the concrete first.
