Okay, coming from the ceiling are a white, red and black wire. Coming from the fan are a white, black and blue wire and the light kit has a white and black wire. Whites are all wired. When I wire the black ceiling to black fan to black light kit wire and the red (ceiling) to blue fan wire, the fan works and the light kit does not. When I take the red wire from ceiling and connect to the black wire from fan and the black wire from ceiling and connect to blue wire from fan, the light kit works but the fan doesn't. How do I get both to work? It has something to do with the ceiling wires, but just reversing them doesn't make both work. Thanks for your help!

It is most likely that the red wire in the ceiling is switched and the black is constant hot. This is why each thing works only when it is connected to the ceiling black.

Okay. Thanks. Any idea what the fix is?

Stan,
I'm no electrician so when you say "find the switch", I'm guessing you're talking the light switch. I have 2- 3way switches for this light/fan. So now that I know where the switches are, am I looking for the red wire that isn't connected?

OK. Chances are that the black is hot all the time and the red is switched.
When you say the light kit has a black and white, they connect in the fan nose cone, right? All you should have at the ceiling connections are the white, black and blue.
What I would do is: at the ceiling, connect white to white; black to black; red to blue.
This should give you the light controlled by the switches and the fan controlled by the pull chain. The way you have it you cannot have both switched from the wall.

Yes. That's part of the problem, though. When I connect the wires the way you describe, only the fan works, no lights.

Have you tested both the black and the red for power?

Ok, the light kit has a black and white wire. White connects to white, black connects to blue from the fan.
At the ceiling, white to white. Black to black, blue to red. OR vice versa. Or black and blue to black. OR black and blue to red. Try them all.
