Depends on the age of the temp files as, I believe, CCleaner leaves newer temps alone.
Same goes for some internet files.

You must add the folder where the temp files are located.
Go to "Options" "Include" and "Add Folder".
Be sure there are no other files in the folder that you want to keep.

I have temp files (in Word) that are 2 weeks old that are not being cleaned by CCleaner.

My CCleaner is setup under System, (checked) Temp Files.

Shouldn't that delete the temp Word files?

I could run a Disk Cleanup, but I thought that was part of CCleaner??

I thought it deletes temp Word files. I have it set to clean Windows > System > Temporary Files.

In the Options > Advanced section, I checked "Delete files in Windows temp folders after 48 hours". I have temp files that are 3-4 weeks old.

When I open a Word file, then close it, the temp file remains in the folder. I know Windows XP is supposed to delete these, but it rarely does. I think Disk Cleanup will do it, but would prefer not to go through that extra step if CCleaner can do it.

At the bottom of ccleaner's main page, you can check something like 'custom something'. If you've added the folder through its add function, ccleaner should now clean the custom added folders.

Everything, but when you add your folder, I believe it has an option that is *.* for the file types. I think you can put, like, *.tmp if you want only them deleted. If you can't specify file types after you add the folder (it's at the last step of adding), then don't add that folder.
To test this, create a folder with a fake file, like from notepad, and add the created folder to ccleaner. See if you can specify. If you are able specify, then scan the folder to see if it deleted. You can put more than one file type in there to see if it left the unspecified files. Ex: create a notepad file and save it in created folder as *.txt. Then, create another one and save it as *.html.

I believe it only deletes the temp files that are in folders such as temporary interenet files, and the ones that are checked on the main page. If you want to see all the .tmp files on your computer, do a search of the c: drive, and enter *.tmp.
Then you can see the locations of them in order to add them to ccleaner.

The thing is, whenever I open a word file, Windows creates a .tmp file while the Word file is open. When I close the Word file, the temp file should delete itself.

I am told that sometimes Windows just doesn't delete these temp files, and no one seems to have an explanation.

So, I never know where the temp files are going to be. Therefore, I would have to add every Office folder to CCleaner and specify *.tmp for deletion. That's a lot of work, and I just thought that CCleaner automatically deleted these temp files without doing anything special.

If I run a Windows Disk Cleanup, it deletes all the temp files. I was just trying to skip that step.

It seems to me that CCleaner deleted these files for me in the past, but I'm not absolutely sure.

When you exit your word program, doesn't it give you the option to save or delete it?

Yes, Word asks if you wish to save the document when you close it, but it should still delete the temp file when the main document is closed, even is saved.
