View Full Version : Who will be in the SuperBowl?
adam_89
Nov 25, 2008, 02:33 PM
I was wondering who everybody thought would make it to the superbowl. Or who they would want to win the superbowl? I think it should be Colts vs. Giants! How awesome of a game would that be? First Peyton, then Eli, now it would be brother vs. brother and Peyton should win it. The Colts have struggled this year, but I think they are playing like a team now and will make it the rest of the way. Does anybody have any input?

Nov 25, 2008, 02:44 PM
The Colts? I seriously doubt the Colts will be in the superbowl with a 7 and 4 record. Yeah they had a good game this week... against San Diego (who have an even worse record)
Stranger things have happened but if every team keeps playing at the level they are at now it will be Giants vs. Titans with the Giants winning again.
spitvenom
Nov 25, 2008, 02:46 PM
THE EAGLES (hahaha they stink)I think the Giants will make it and win it again. The AFC is so Horrible right now I can't even predict who will make it out. I don't think the Titans will do well in the playoffs. Colts always have a shot. And as much as I hate them you still can't count the Pats out. AFC west is so crazy that if the Raiders get on a roll they have a slim very slim chance of winning the AFC west.

Nov 25, 2008, 02:48 PM
Oh yeah, I think the Colts could make the playoffs too but as for the big game... I don't think it will be them.
We shall see kind of soon!

Nov 25, 2008, 02:53 PM
Ok. So, I would say that the titans are at least going to the afc champ game. Hopefully against the colts. And I think the colts have a chance at beating them this time. The colts have been doing bad this year, but are picking up. I deffinately think the giants will go to the superbowl. It would be awesome if it was brother vs. brother though. Which puts pressure on oth of them. Haha
spitvenom
Nov 25, 2008, 02:57 PM
YEah I would like to see P&E superbowl. But in a way I don't want to see that because the media would just over hype it so much I won't even want to watch it.
adam_89
Nov 25, 2008, 03:02 PM
Haha. That is true. It would go huge, and then I would eventually get tired of it. I do want to see it though. I like Eli, but Peyton is my guy. Peyton beat his bro a few years ago, but Eli has matured much since then. I just want to see it. It does seem like everybody in the AFC is doing bad this year. Well, except Tennessee, which I don't know where that came from anyhow. If Indy beats Tennessee at the end of the season, I would say the colts will go to the big game!

Its going to be a MEADOWLANDS Super Bowl!!
Brett will exact revenge on Eli.
You heard it here first ;)
adam_89
Nov 26, 2008, 04:22 AM
Well, thank you for that. I wouldn't ever put anything past Brett. He always has a surprise up his sleeve. The other game I would want to see is Jets vs. Packers. There Brett could get revenge on his old team for disowning him.

Ok. So, i would say that the titans are atleast going to the afc champ game.
Huh? Titans have only lost one game! They are 10 and 1 so far... I'm pulling for them, well, I am from Tennessee. :p

I saw on SportsCenter this morning that if both the Jets and Giants make it the championship games they both have home field advantage they will play one game on Sunday and then the other game on Monday.

Huh? Titans have only lost one game!! They are 10 and 1 so far......I'm pulling for them, well, I am from Tennessee. :p
I am from Indiana so I am for Indianapolis. Haha. Just because they have one game doesn't mean much. The Giants have lost one game. Last year the Pats went all the was but lost the big one. The Colts went like 13-0 one year before losing a couple. So it happens to everyone, it doesn't mean that they will win everything. Sorry. My team and your team are rivals. Good luckthough!

Yeah but that one loss was their last game and it was a total domination by the Jets. I think it exposed their weaknesses. ;)

The Titans dominated the Lions on Thanksgiving, but that doesn't give them bragging rights. It's the lions for crying out loud. I sometimes wonder if I could play better than some of their players. Haha

adam_89
Nov 29, 2008, 06:35 AM
Well, I wouldn't count the skins out but they will probably lose against the giants this week.
I really don't think the Saints are going anywhere this year.
The Bears are rebuilding quite nicely this year, but I don't know if they have it enough together to get to the big game.
I don't think the steelers could get past some of the teams that they would have to face.
These are just my opinions, but I love everybody's opinions.

Dec 4, 2008, 01:14 PM
I am sure it will be the Giants from the NFC. The Titans are a fluke, they won't last in the playoffs. The Colts are not good enough this year. The Pats are still recovering from what the Giants did last year. The Jets have Brett, you can never count out Brett. But the team I really think will make it is the Steelers. They would give the Giants the best run for their money
adam_89
Dec 4, 2008, 01:21 PM
I just can't say much anymore! I would love to say the colts are going end of story but that game in cleveland really scared me. If we don't absolutely blow Detroit out of the water, I will probably laugh and then count them out. Haha.

I would love to see brother against brother, it would make a great storyline. But who would Archie root for?
adam_89
Dec 4, 2008, 01:31 PM
Haha. I would love that game. I think they wouldn't wear either jersey, then at halftime whoever was up they might slip on that jersey. Haha
1099669
Dec 8, 2008, 07:09 AM
Ha Ha. When Joe Morris used to play for the Giants, his brother played for the Redskins. When the Giants played the Redskins his father would wear one teams jersey and their mother would wear the other teams jersey and at halftime they would switch jerseys.

So, you hear that they fired the Lions, Browns, and Jets Head coach? Kind of funny, kind of sad. There are so many coaches getting fired this year!
spitvenom
Dec 31, 2008, 07:18 AM
How about Mike Shanahan getting fired. I didn't see that coming at all! I mean yeah the Broncos haven't been that great lately but man.
adam_89
Dec 31, 2008, 07:51 AM
I didn't hear that one, I heard today that 49's offensive coordinator was fired. It seems like somebody else was fired. I think some offensive and defensive coordiantors here and there. Teams just keep disposing of Coaches like nothing. Didn't it start with Oakland's Coach in the start of the season? Now would be a bad time to be a coach in the NFL. Haha
spitvenom
Dec 31, 2008, 08:42 AM
Oakland changes their coach almost every year. When is Al Davis going to wake up and realize the coach isn't the problem it is him. I feel bad for Oakland fans because that team is never going to improve until Al Davis is no longer the owner. Unfortunately I don't think he will ever give up ownership until he is dead.
Here is a link for the Mike Shanahan story ESPN - Denver Broncos fire Mike Shanahan after season falls apart (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3800768)
jjwoodhull
Dec 31, 2008, 08:52 AM
The problem is we have such a "win now" culture in sports. The coaches are given no slack for mistakes, off years or injuries. Critics feel Denver didn't play to their potential this year - so out with Shanahan.
Now who's going to fill all these vacancies? Mike Holmgren and Bill Cowher seem to be serious about not working next year. When defensive coordinators get promoted to first time coaches, will the fans and media be patient with them? Probably not.
I understand that it's big business, but it's getting crazy.

I think it is funny how 2 weeks ago EVERYONE in Philly was screaming get rid of Reid and McNabb. Ok so who replaces them? Seriously the Eagles back up Kevin Kolb played half a game and got destroyed by the Ravens.
We have that Win Now culture in football but it takes a 2 or 3 years for a team and coach to really get to know each other. Atlanta well I am still shaking my head about how they are so good so fast.

Atlanta had no controversy this year and the media and fans left them alone and expected nothing from them. So they quietly did their jobs and focused on football.
The Eagles fans were crazy - there's a real chance they could make it to the Super Bowl. They are the only one's with a chance to beat the Giants.

Well, I guess it's OK as long as little Manning can get another ring. I don't even know what to predict now. I just can't blame anything on Peyton because it isn't his fault he is the MVP after all. It's our rushing offense and rushing defense just sucks so so horribly. So, what's the match-ups now? There are 8 teams left right? Chargers, Cardinals, Baltimore, Philly, Titans, Steelers, Panthers, and Giants? I just don't know who plays who. I Chargers played Titans probably wrong though.

Yea, Yea, Yea I know. I couldn't believe that the 2 teams I picked were out that fast. Ok, somebody had something to get out of their system huh? Well, I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks who is the best. Does anybody ever think that it doesn't determine much? I mean a team could have a bad week or they could have beat a team in the playoffs that another team didn't. Just things like that. Sometimes teams don't always play the best, so sometimes the superbowl doesn't always determine the best.
jjwoodhull
Jan 13, 2009, 10:15 AM
It doesn't necessarily determine the best. It's true of all sports. It's about who gets hot at the right time, who plays better under pressure, who has the least injuries, etc.
That said - the playoff system in professional sports is great for creating excitement and I wouldn't want to see it changed.

Very well put JJ. I wouldn't change anything if I could either. I love the excitement in football. I played a little in my day. Haha. I think I brought luck with me. When I was at one school they won close to 70 straight season games, then I transferred schools and I played for another team and we went undefeated. We were the first team to go undefeated in over 30 years. Then the school I was at lost their first game after I moved. Haha. I miss those days.

I used to be a "rival", then Kimo Von Oelhoffen crushed Carson Palmer's knee..and after the game the Steelers were in their locker room chanting "WE DEY!". Hate...hate...hate the Steelers!
Kind of like I feel about the Packers... now that I am a sorry Bears' fan too. Remember when they picked up Jim McMahon and threw him viciously to the ground and gave him a concussion? Later it was said that they had a "bounty" on his head.

I don't know why but I have a horrible feeling that the Eagles are going to lose to the Cards. I still stand behind my super bowl picks (Ravens Vs. Eagles) but I keeping getting visions of past Eagles and Cards games when Jake "the Snake" Plummer would lead the Cards to a come from behind victory.

Don't curse Spitvenom! Haha. I guess me and you have the same superbowl picks. My original went out the window the first day. So, that was my second guess which is now my first!

Well, here it is!
Steelers vs. Cardinals!
I got none of the teams right. I was so dissapointed in the Ravens, but the Steelers are going to be hard for anyone.

My new prediction is:
Steelers beat Cardinal 31- 14
I hope it is the other way around

Steelers 17, Cardinals 10

I have this growing feeling that something shocking is going to happen in the Super Bowl. Not necessarily the outcome, but some bizarre event or play that may affect the game. Then again, the Cardinals are there. That's shocking enough already. GO STEELERS! No, really, go. Away. I'm sick of you.

Possibly the Steelers may loose, but I don't think so. It's all about defense and especially in the big one.

Hmm... who did the Steelers beat in the playoffs anyway? The 8-8 Chargers... the rookie-quarterbacked Ravens... not that impressive. Who did the Cardinals beat? The Falcons... okay, rookie QB... the Panthers AT CAROLINA... in a BEAT DOWN! The Eagles... in a late come-from-behind thriller... IMPRESSIVE!

Very True. I want the Cards to win. I just believe that Defense wins the games. Especially the big ones. Just like the saying, "Offense sells tickets, Defense wins games." Things aren't turning out the way I expected them to, so it's hard saying. I guess we will wait and see. I keep hearing Big Ben is fine for superbowl. What happened to him?

Well, yea, I was just posting this so people could see it. I think Warner comes out looking better. Well, compared to the main stats. Less times being sacked. About 7% better on completion percentage, more yards, more touchdowns, better pass rating.

Yeah, you are right about that no question, but I was speaking to the 'overall', but your points are well taken. It should be a great game Sunday, worth the admission.
At the end of the day... I still feel, even with the good possibility of freaky things happening, that the defenses have always been the major factor in the big games... we'll see though.
Anything obviously can happen. I'll be having a few ice cold ones with family and friends sitting before my 'jumbo' screen, oh yeah, pizza and wings also... ha.:D

Good info, Adam. I think Ben is the most over rated QB in the NFL, but I still think Steelers will win.

I think Ben is the most over rated QB in the NFL.773H yes he is, he gets waaay toooo much credit for the Steelers' success. He fits their style, but they win sometimes in spite of him, not because of him.

Well, I missed all the talk for a couple of days. I came into work for a couple of hours to do my month end reports but I had to bad of a hangover that I had to go back home. Anyway, it was pretty awesome game. That 100 yd int. return was bad for Warner to throw it on the 2yd line. Who does that kind of thing. Then as you see The guy running by Warner, another Steelers defender has Warner by his jersey. What's with that? Oh well. Is anybody watching the probowl game? I haven't ever watched it, but I think I will this year.

That's a good one, Stringer. I've copied and pasted it here so that Adam can read it.
Bob is awarded a free ticket to the Super Bowl by his company.
Unfortunately, when he arrives at the game, he realizes the seat is way up in the last row in a remote corner of the stadium. He can barely make out the tiny green rectangle far below.
Then, about halfway into the first quarter, Bob notices an empty seat just a few rows off the field, right on the 50-yard line. He decides to go for it and makes his long way down through the stadium, sweet-talks his way past the security guards, and sits in the empty seat.
He asks a man in the next seat "Say, is anybody sitting here?". The man says "Nope".
Thrilled to find such a great seat for the game, Bob again inquires of the man next to him, "This is incredible! Who in the world would hold a seat like this for the Super Bowl and not use it?"
The man in the next seat replies, "Actually, the seat belongs to me. I was planning to be here with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we haven't watched together since we married 35 years ago."
Bob expresses solemn condolences: "Gee, that sure is sad, sir. But couldn't you have found somebody else to share your seats - a relative or a close friend, perhaps?"
"Nope," the man replies, trying to concentrate on the game. "They're all at the funeral"
