For the last 3 weeks I've lost sleep due to a pulsating, low-pitch noise that sounds like it's coming from my neighbor's area where his pool equipment, propane tank and? Are located. It's a fenced area. We live on acre lots. At first I thought it was my septic system and I've had that checked and it's not. I've had the water company out and they say it's nothing between the main and my house. It's driving me crazy. Can't sleep and am now being treated for hypertension. Can't help but think it's related to this noise, as I've never had high blood pressure before. Everyone who comes to my house and listens says it's coming from my neighbor's area. I've called my neighbor, sent e-mails and tried to catch them while they're leaving in the morning, but the never return my calls, my e-mails or stop for me to talk to them. I would like to eliminate their house as the source before I spend money I don't have on plumbers or building inspectors or whatever. The noise is there all day long, but during the day is masked more by day noise, like traffic etc. I can forgive it during the early hours of the evening because of TV, etc. but trying to sleep from midnight on is impossible because of this noise. It almost feels like the "sound" and "feel" of a horrible pounding headache. Anybody have any suggestions? I can't afford to move, so that eliminates that!

Have you complained to the Building Department? Tell them the noise comes from a section of your neighbors property that contains Propane and, since you don't know if Propane's involved, you are worried about your families safet, Could they please send a inspector out to check. At least you'll find out what it is and at most it will be corrected and stopped. Good luck and thank you for rating ny reply. Tom

It seems like your neighbor has partially closed valve, or perhaps, a loose part in the valve, pool filter, heater, etc. Fix is easy. I assume you are friend with your neighbor: go to the pool equipment and move all valves from open to close and back to open. If noise still persist that turn the entire pool equipment system off and back on. Change pump speed. It should eliminate the noise.

Milo - thank you SO much for that advice. I finally received a callback from my neighbor this evening and he said he'd try and find out what the problem is, but with your info I'll be able to give him some direction.
