I am installing a 5 ton heat pump. The wire run is 30 feet. The unit specifications are: Voltage 208-230, minimum circuit ampacity 33.0, max breaker 45.0.
What size supply wire will I need to use?
Thanks

#8cu would be the smallest you could go.
If you are running NM cable then 8/2NM would be what you want.
Are you aware of the codes involved with doing such a project?
Or you could call an electrician.

Thanks stanfortyman, I went with 6/3 NM just to be on the safe side. I had accessed several web site charts and they had reccommened a range from #3 to #12 (not very helpful). I have a code book but always like to get a second opinion from someone with experience. I wired entire house by myself and try to always do better than code requires.

You didn't need the 6/3. 6/2 would have been the same thing only you are not wasting a conductor.
