I have known the guy I am engaged to for 5 years. We have not been together the whole time, but have never lost touch. We got back together about two months ago. He is leaving for Afghanistan in May and we have decided to get married before he leaves. My problem is telling my mom. I don't know what to say to her. I know she won't like it, even though she knows him and likes him a lot. And then I have to tell my brother. Those are the only two peole I am worried about telling. WHAT DO I SAY?

My boyfriend and I decided to get engaged. He is in the military and leaving for Afghanistan in May. We are going to get married before he leaves. I have to tell my mom, but don't know how. I am kind of freaked out. I don't do spontaneous things and this is a big decision. I know that I want to marry him and even if he was not leaving I would still marry him, but maybe not his soon. What should I expect in the months to come?

How old are you?

You should not rush things. My boss is a retired marine and white house courier, and he was saying how the first year of marriage is always the hardest but not for him because he was gone for the first year. Haha. But if you know you want to marry him. Just go with it for now. You still have like 6 months before you get married and if anything happens bad it should happen then.

If you are not mature and old enough to tell your "mom" what you are doing, to be honest you are not old enough and mature enough to get married.

And of course it is going to be hard, he will be somewhere that he can't call home at night,

So you are either a grown up and need to act like one, or you need to wait.

I don't understand why your mom wouldn't like that you want to marry him.

Well at least your mom is looking out for you. At 21 you're a little more mature. You've known him a long time and I think that if you two really love each other your mom would be happy for you two. I don't know what exactly happened with your sister but after seeing what she went through I would imagine that you won't be making the same mistakes.
