I worked in india from April 08 to December 08 but Jan 09 onwards am going to Hongkong for work. Have been in India all my life before april08. HK Employer would pay me monthly salary as well as provide housing allowance to the extent of the rent I would pay, so it means that the housing allowance would go in totality to the land lord. What I want to know is 1)in case the housing allowance is paid to me through payroll monthly would I need to pay taxes in india on that? And 2)in case the company pays rent to the landlord directly so that no reference of housing allowance comes into the payroll/payslips, would I need to pay tax in india on that? It would be great if you could give me indian tax article numbers appicable

This tax forum addresses U.S. taxes.

Check some of MukatA's posting and PM him; he has a link to an Indian tax forum.
