HELP ME!! I am 18 almost 19 and I want to be free to do as I choose. The only problem is my uncle has custody of me and he is very abusive verbally and always threatens me if I leave he will send me away. He has convinced the cops that I have a mentallity of a 12 year old and can't make it on my own. How can I get free from him??

Where do you live now, what state or country? If you are over 18 you should be able to just leave as you are considered an adult. So just leave already. If you can prove how old you are you can leave anytime and your uncle cannot do anything about it. Find another place to move to and then just leave. Hopefully you will also have a job when you do leave to support yourself.

Hi, kungfupanda!

Greetings and WELCOME to the site! I just moved your question that you had posted in Introductions to this topic area so that it would get the most exposure to those who are best able to answer it. Introductions is for people to introduce themselves and we try to not ask questions there.

It can be a little confusing when first learning how to use this site! Your question will get noticed much more in this forum area.

I do see that you've received one response besides me so far.

We would appreciate it if you would return to Introductions sometime to tell us a little about yourself though, if you would be willing to do that.

Thanks!

Yes, if you are in the US, have you been proven in court not able to care for yourself due to mental defect? And your uncle has guardianship over you?

If not at 18 you are free in the US just to leave, you don't need anyone's permission, open the door, and go, police can not do anything about it.
