Hi!

I have a 1992 Carrier 58sxc 060 gas furnace in the basement. After few hour I’d started this fall, we could smell burned gas by the duct. Then I open the unit and take out the heat exchanger to observe that rust made damage on 2 sections and let some exhaust gas link in air duct.

After these observation I should replace all the unit (furnace)or only replace the rusted part Heat exchanger?

To replace the heat exchanger, where could I find this part?

Thanks

Since you are doing the work yourself you might as well replace the damaged cells, if you can find them.
Check with your Carrier distributor.

Let me make as observation, were the two sections that were damaged the ones that the pilot stood between? If so you probably have a small freon leak and the freon is being sucked into the pilot and burned, this causes fosgene gas which is dangerious and also very corrosive. Over this will eat a hole in the heat exchanger.
