My local mechanic determined that I need a new distributor. I'm mechanically inclined and due to the cost for him to replace it, I would rather do it myself.
How can I confirm if I need to replace the whole distributor or just the electrical components? How do I bench test the igniter and the coil system. These parts can be bought separately and are much cheaper then the whole distributor.
Thank you. Dennis P...

Due to the age of your Accord, it's adviseable to replace the whole distributor. The sealed bearing only lasts so long and then it will leave you stranded. They can go suddenly, without much warning. Here's how to do the work yourself:

Easy job.
