I live in southern Ohio. I am considering a new heating system.
I am torn between an Amana 14 seer heat pump and a Goodman
Lp gas furnace and air conditioner. I have a 30 year old 2000 sq ft
Ranch home.

I went through this exercise last year for someone and could model your scenario to help provide some insight.

What is your closest large city so I can get its heating degree days? What are you considering as backup to the Heat Pump? What are your LP rates like and KWH rates including taxes? What efficiency LP furnace are you considering?

Get both the heat pump and the LP gas furnace.

In southern Ohio around Cincinnati a heat pump works great but that area also has some nasty cold snaps as you are aware. Get the 90+ style furnace and not the 80+ style furnace since the cost difference is not that great. The system I am talking about has a trade name we use it is Dual Fuel.

I am retired from the HVAC biz but I do teach HVAC classes over at NKU when I feel like it and I will give you a tip.

Call Recker and Boerger Co. There are many good companys in the area but they have good prices and are a very large company that will not be going out of business as some HVAC companys have done in the area. If you have the $$$ get the complete warranty for as many years as they offer. You will save $$$ in the long run and they do good work.

Now if you do not plan on keeping your home for a good amount of time I would not spend the extra bucks for the dual fuel.

I have known this companys owners from when they started in the HVAC biz in fact 45 years ago when they started the HVAC end of the biz they used to hire out of my plain no name trucks to go out and repair problems they could not figure out. They have come a long way from back then and that is why I recommend they. There service people sometimes attend my classes so I know the caliber of the personel they hire.

This is there web site.
