OK so this weekend is going to be the first time I'm doing weed. I just wanted to know if there is something to be aware of while doing this... and just in general what the experience is like

Downside:

What are some of the immediate effects of smoking marijuana?
Some immediate physical effects of marijuana include a faster heartbeat and pulse rate, bloodshot eyes, and a dry mouth and throat. No scientific evidence indicates that marijuana improves hearing, eyesight, and skin sensitivity. Studies of marijuana's mental effects show that the drug can impair or reduce short-term memory, alter sense of time, and reduce ability to do things which require concentration, swift reactions, and coordination, such as driving a car or operating machinery.

Are there any other adverse reactions to marijuana?
A common bad reaction to marijuana is the "acute panic anxiety reaction." People describe this reaction as an extreme fear of "losing control," which causes panic. The symptoms usually disappear in a few hours.

What about psychological dependence on marijuana?
Long-term regular users of marijuana may become psychologically dependent. They may have a hard time limiting their use, they may need more of the drug to get the same effect, and they may develop problems with their jobs and personal relationships. The drug can become the most important aspect of their lives.

What are the dangers for young people?
One major concern about marijuana is its possible effects on young people as they grow up. Research shows that the earlier people start using drugs, the more likely they are to go on to experiment with other drugs. In addition, when young people start using marijuana regularly, they often lose interest and are not motivated to do their schoolwork. The effects of marijuana can interfere with learning by impairing thinking, reading comprehension, and verbal and mathematical skills. Research shows that students do not remember what they have learned when they are "high".

How does marijuana affect driving ability?
Driving experiments show that marijuana affects a wide range of skills needed for safe driving -- thinking and reflexes are slowed, making it hard for drivers to respond to sudden, unexpected events. Also, a driver's ability to "track" (stay in lane) through curves, to brake quickly, and to maintain speed and the proper distance between cars is affected. Research shows that these skills are impaired for at least 4-6 hours after smoking a single marijuana cigarette, long after the "high" is gone. If a person drinks alcohol, along with using marijuana, the risk of an accident greatly increases. Marijuana presents a definite danger on the road

I'm not going to tell you that smoking weed is bad, because personally I don't think anything is wrong with it. Let me say though if you chose to smoke weed, don't do it because you want to fit in or whatever, don't be a follower. If you're just curious and you want to try it out, then I'll tell you what it's like.

Weed can affect you in different ways, it depends on how strong it is. The first time I smoked weed I didn't feel anything so you might not even get high. If you do, something's you might experience are: dizziness, you'll feel slower when you move and speak, you might start to feel your heart beat very fast and that will most likely cause you to panic(it happens to a lot of people), you'll feel like you lost track of time, you might start to feel bad about yourself and you might get paranoid thoughts. Once the buzz starts to wear off you'll feel hungry, and when you eat you don't feel your stomach getting full so you eat a lot, that's why people say you get the munchies when you're high. You might also get burnt out, which means you'll get very tired and lazy. Again, this all depends on how strong the weed is. If it isn't strong you probably will just feel dizzy and slow. My best advice to give you is to control yourself. If you like it and you want to do it again then once in awhile it's OK, but if you start to do it everyday then you can seriously become addicted and it's hard to stop. I hope this helped.

Personally I have a problem with weed, that's why I posted the downside of doing it. It is a serious relationship buster mainly because constant use ruins an individual's personality and social life.

However, I do have a couple of clients who are able to purchase it with a special government permit here in Ontario for chronic pain, but then again, it helps control the pain somewhat and is a last resort after immunity to pain meds and side effects, but all the 'downsides' still occur and the two clients I have cannot maintain long term relationships any longer. So they are basically loaners.

Hi, emberandashes!

Very fine and helpful answers above! I think that the first thing that you need to be considering is whether it's legal to be possessing marijuana in the locale where you intend to be smoking it.

Just looking out for your best interests here...

Thanks!

If you get caught with it, your life will change in many unpleasant ways... ask yourself if momentary satisfaction is worth a possible life with drug addiction (mary jane is a gateway drug for others) or possible crimminal record.

My first time was 2 years ago and I had told my friends I'd done it a million times before, even though I hadn't lol. It's not like it's a big deal... just go with the flow

The first time I smoked up, I got so paranoid. I thought I was going to die. It was the worst feeling ever... I was going to go to the emmergency room but instead I went to sleep and thought I'd wake up fine.. However, I was still a little high when I woke up. I stayed away from it for about 5 years after that and then thought I would try it again to see if I'm okay with it. SAME THING HAPPENED!! But a lot of people get paranoid on weed..

With me, it makes me sick. Not as in puking but as in nauseous and dizzy. With my friends, I'd say it relaxes them somewhat but it's nothing too special. Personally, I never understood weed. I guess my advice would be not to smoke much during your first time because you don't really know how you're going to react to it. And don't get your expectations high, it's nothing cool or spectacular.

I had a group of friends in high school that smoked weed and would always offer it to me. After seeing what it did to a couple of my cousins I decided I didn't ever want to try it. Now this group of people that used to smoke in high school, and maybe this is just coincidence, but none of them have jobs, some haven't even finished school and some are still living at their parents because they can't find the motivation to move out. I don't know if, like other people said, they used marijuana as a gateway to other drugs or what, but I can't imagine being in that situation.

When I tried weed for the 1st time I started to feel like I was going to faint so I went out of the room and my eyes looked like I hadn't got any sleep in days my eyes were blood shot red, I don't think you should try weed because it gets you addicted, the second time I tried weed I felt very sick and I felt like I was going to throw up but nothing could come out because I hadn't ate anything, my advise to you is that if you want to try it then try it but I wouldn't recommend it! Please don't get addicted its not nice!! X

Hello em:

Drugs aren't for children. Wait until your mind is fully cooked first.

It tastes like!
Your first one won't make you paranoid but you will get paranoid anyway when you come across an authority figure in your life e.g. parents
My first and last time was horrible cz I thought my mum would smell it in the house and on me

Paranoia is an effect that comes along with first time smokers.

Maybe not all, but a lot.

Many many years ago I read a lot before I got pregnant about smoking ANYTHING and HOW HARMFUL IT COULD BE FOR MY UNBORN BABY. And guess what. By the time I was ready to get pregnant, at 39, I was completely happy to have a healthy EIGHT POUND baby with no consequences to him or me, even at almost 40. A benchmark my pediatrician told me.

Fetal alcohol syndrome is bad enough, but do you really want to see a baby withrdrawal from meth, cocaine, etc. etc. All you have to do is enter 'fetal withdrawal' on Google and read how difficult, how devastating, how painful it is for that tiny baby mind and body to go through all because a mom that doesn't care put that little one through it.

OK for all the people who are saying not to do it and how harmful it is, your semi wrong. Yes smoking weed can be very harmful... IF you do it very very often and all the time.
I only did this for experimental reasons, and I most definitely won't do it unless I'm with my friends and its just socially. It was actually really fun.
I found out I'm the type that gets fidgety and hyper... my friend told me not to expect anything the first time because it usually doesn't work the first time... but it hit me good...
It was like I forgot everything after 3 seconds, at some points I just couldn't help burst out a laugh. Time went by REALLY slow... at one pint my friend said something and I was like" how the HELL do u remember tht?? tht was soo long ago" and it was actually what we were just talking about 2 minutes ago.

And of course I would never smopke if I were pregnant... which is not possible since I'm a guy

I have a friend that gets severe alergic reactions when he smokes it, so I'd be careful if I were you.

Find some new friends that have something better to do with their lives. Weed really isn't as great as people make it out to be. You sit there and laugh because that's what you think its supposed to make you feel like but really it just makes you feel out of control and stupid.

The first time I smoked pot I didn't feel anything and that is common. And by the way I smoked pot for the first time when I was 13. Then when I was 17 I started messing around with prescription pills then I became a heroin addict. So it definitely is a gateway drug. Also, if you have a family member who is or was an addict you have a 70% chance of becoming one yourself. I'm clean now, but I when I smoked pot I was more likely to do something I wouldn't normally do. Just something for you to chew on...

I know guys that get paranoid smoking weed.
I agree with zoemarie most people I know that smoke weed have low paying jobs if they even have any job. I only know about three out of 100 that work and can keep a job. Maybe it is a coincidence as ZM said.

Well, first of all if you have your mind set on it, then make sure you trust the person who has it, weed can be laced with other more dangerous drugs like crystal meth, and the effects can be scary, you can eve feel like your dying. It is no laughing matter, besides there isn't all that much joy in it, you get hungry, and a lot of people get paranoia, please be careful, and if the person who has the weed is a friend of your, still heck to make sure nothing else is in it, never smoke it if it comes prerolled and look for odd things, like white dust or crystal like powder. If its is anything more then green from weed and maybe a little pinch, do not touch it. You may just regret it.

I had used marijuana quit a bit during my twenties. I really liked using it and had fun with my friends. Years of using went by and I woke up one day realizing that so much wasted time had went by, just wasted being high. What a disappointment. It may seem cool and fun, but using it will take away the potential person that god intended you too be. Do not get wrapped up in this

Yeah we are REAL stupid because we have seen hundreds of hundreds of people saying they are not going to get addicted.
Out of all the people I have known that get high NONE of them have ever said I want to be an addict and be a low life that gets nowhere in life.
There was a girl on here a few months ago that said the same thing and she ended up in a really big mess and realized she was in deeper than she ever thought she could be.

Come back in a few years and tell us if it is working out the way you planned.
