The more you learn about the card meanings, the better readings you will be able to do. Sometimes I use a formal spread, where each position has a specific meaning, but often when I use Tarot I just let my intuition guide how many cards to lay out and in what patterns, and then let them show me the connections between them.

The most important part of Tarot work, like any other form of magick, is intention--you have to form the Query, the question you are asking of the cards, very clearly in your mind.
