Re: "dwwin.exe - DLL Initialization Failed" on shutdown.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can disable dwwin.exe which is a Dr. Watson error-collector and reporting tool, in your registry like so:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

or you can download dwwin.exe to try to repair it, here:

http://ausgereifft.architektur.rwth-.../SP1/i368/drw/

Otherwise, try also doing WINDOWS UPDATE from the "TOOLS" option at top of IE menu .

I have 2 questions:

1) If I want to disable dwwin.exe in my registry, do I delete all keys under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

Or do I set string value of certain keys in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

2) I have found a site for dwwin.exe, and I have downloaded it to my PC. Now, how do I repair it? Are you saying to replace my existing dwwin.exe files throughout my C:?

Thank you.

1)Delete the AeDebug key.

Personally have always disabled this on new installs of windows

2)dwwin.exe is just the file that executes dr watson, all you would do with this is to replace your existing one with the one you downloaded, it will not make a difference or "fix" anything

I had this same problem for a long time.. The registry selling sites out there lie.. The only way to do this is to shut it off by doing a registry edit... Don't be scared. It is simple.. Hit Start>RUN>enter REGEDIT - go to key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

If you want to make a copy of the AeDebug for whatever reason (because you will be deleting it) right click it and click export.. It will make a backup you can save elsewhere.. When that is done, right click AeDebug and delete. Shut down your PC. Error will still come up. Boot it back up. Shut it back down - error gone. Very very very annoying but this totally gets rid of it. Don't buy a registry cleaner for this problem! WILL NOT FIX IT! Only this method will!
