What would you do if they told you that it would be your last day on earth? That no one was safe? Would you run? Where would you go? Or If they told you that your area was infected and quarantined would you protest?

I think I would stay at home with my family, pray, say goodbye and reflect on our lives... under certain circumstances though would I run and save my family? I don't know... but what would you do?

Challenging question, April. I'm curious what brought it up for you. I suppose I'd mainly be taking care of my family; save them if I could, help them be at peace with it if I couldn't. If they weren't around or if they had things under control, I'd probably go down to the beach. I'm better able to let go in a Taoist way there.

This reminds me of something that was tangentially related. I grew up during the Cold War, living close to a major Air Force base. We were always aware that a nuclear war could happen and destroy everything. More recently, I went to a USAF museum. Outside they had a B-52, with a Mark 6 atomic bomb sitting on the tarmac under its wing (or at least the casing, it didn't contain any fissionable material, of course). It was quite a weird feeling to walk up and touch it, to confront this thing that had caused such a miasma of fear for everyone in my childhood. They had a Minuteman II ICBM with one of its mobile truck silos.

On a lighter note, my mother-in-law worked for years for Morton Thiokol, the company that made the solid rocket boosters for nukes. ;)
