My husband brought a picture at a yard sale. It is by Rembrandt, it called "The Oriental". I found the EXACT picture on the internet. This picture I have is on canvis, and is in a old frame. Do you know where I could take this picture to have it checked out, and find out if it is a original.

Hi, Nancy Yates!

Most likely, what you have is an original reproduction of the original painting. It's highly unlikely that anything extant by Rembrandt would be lying "loose" out there somewhere. Most all of his most notable original works are in art galleries or in private homes, owned by private collectors.

What you have could have been produced by mechanical means via the aid of a computer program or even by the skilled work of a copyist.

Thanks!

Some further thoughts here...

The subject of "Oriental" in Rembrandt's paintings comes up a number of times. Does what you have look like any of the images that you'll find on pages of the following search? And if so, which ones, please?

Rembrandt Oriental - Google Image Search (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=off&q=Rembrandt%20Oriental&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi)

Thanks!
