Please help... I am adding an additional jack.

I bought telephone wire that has this configuration: 1) Blue 2) white with blue stripe 3) orange 4) white with orange stripe

I have a traditional jack red, green, black etc...

How do I hook it up?

If it help to answer question: I have 1 phone line in house, but I do have a fax number different from main number (I believ that number somehow is going through main line since prior house owners had only one line, but I could be mistaken)... my service is through the cable company(modem etc) not local phone company

Thank you

See here for colors:

Doing your own telephone wiring (http://www.ling.upenn.edu/~kurisuto/phone_wiring.html)

T1, R1 would normally be the main line
T2, R2 would normally be the fax line

A Line1, Line 2, Line1+Line 2 adapter would normally be placed in the jack containing the fax and the fax machine would be plugged into the Line 2 port.

FAX service COULD be provided by distinctive ring, but I doubt that's available under VoIP.

There can be 3 lines on a telephone jack, but most are wired for 2.
