Hi, I brought a front load washer and decided to rearrange my lundry room in the basement. BEFORE, the old washer used to drain directly into the wash basin. They were side-by-side. NOW, the front load washer is 6 feet away from the basin. The drain hose does not reach the basin plus, it really doesn't look great. The washer is on the same wall as the basin just 6 feet away. I want to drain the washer into the wash basin drainage line. I was thinking of running 1-1/2" ABS piping in the wall to the washer and connecting the other end to the wash basin drainage line. Can I do this?? If I can, at the washer end, what kind of connection do I use. (eg. Stand pipe how high? What dia. Pipe?) I live in toronto, ont. Canada. (for code sake) Sorry, if not clear enough... thanks lot for your info.

Sure just make that a 3" pipe not 1 1/2". Current code for a washer is 2" but that fails too often so the 2009 code will be 3", might as well make the jump when you can. The stand pipe needs to be at least 36" above the horizontal line running to the tub. If that looks too funky for you then install a conpression fitting on the end of the plastic pipe and insert your washer drain hose. There will be a great deal of pressure and volume at the other end in the tub, I think you wioll be disappointed when it splashes out.
