Hi All,

I am running XP Pro and have a MS mouse/keyboard combo, all was well until I changed the batteries in the keyboard, now it won't communicate. I have a second keyboard (also an MS Wireless model) I use while charging the batteries and it continues to work just fine, as does the mouse. I have tried resetting the channel on both the hub and keyboard to no avail. Does anybody have a suggestion to get the first keyboard back on duty? Thanks in advance.

Move problem keyboard to another computer to verify problem remains with the device.
After resetting channel, does pressing keys on keyboard cause visual response from the hub? Lights flash?
Change batteries again.
Pray.
Check the manufacturer's website for troubleshooting steps/forums.

Thanks but I already indicated the 2nd keyboard continues to work fine
I tried several sets of batteries
Tried the MS website
All the posts I can find everywhere are concerned with getting a device to work initially
All I did was change batteries
Yes the hub responds when hitting the connect button

You said all was well UNTIL you changed the batteries... was that true? Didn't you change the batteries because the keyboard stopped working and you attributed the reason to batteries?

What might have actually happened was the keyboard failed... and it's still broken. Or, the hub failed... it's receiving the signal from the keyboard but no longer transmitting it down the cable..

Yes you are correct, the keyboard started acting unreliable as in the past when the batteries went low. I assumed the same this time. I know the receiver is OK because the second keyboard and the mouse continue to work just fine. Thanks for your input. I am looking for a way to isolate and positively identify the keyboard as bad. Any ideas? Thanks

I'm a computer technician and see problems with wireless keyboards and mice all the time. If you've already tried replacing the batteries, then, the next step would be to "pair" the device. Sometimes when the batteries run out, you're required to setup the device again.

Most of the time, these instructions are on the bottom of the keyboard or on the wireless receiver that connects to your USB or PS/2 port.

Typically, you hold down the button the receiver and wait for a response (normally a light on the reciver will turn on). Then, press the connect button on the bottom of the keyboard.

Check for unique instructions for this model in the manual, if you can find it. If that doesn't work, you might want to just go back to the "brick and morter" wired keyboards, if that's possible. They give 95% less trouble.
