My twin sons are turning 18 next week, both attend college and live at home with mom. It does not state in divorce papers at what age support payments will stop, Ex-wife well -off has money and property from inheretance. Got divorced in '95. I could really use the money... no savings 401k etc. When can I stop paying Child support to ex wife, she really doesn't need the money?

THe child support ends when there 18 or the last day of school. My son turned 18 in dec but graduated in June child support ended in July.

Call you local child support office for the exsact date you don't want to get in to any problems just give them a call and they will tell you and send out notices reminding everyone concerned that child support will be terminated.. Hope that helps you.

Best of Luck,

First, I apologize to Michelle. I did not see that the OP had indicated his location and her advice is correct for Florida.

If the divorce decree does not specifiy, then you have to go by state law. This site lists the applicable law:

Florida statute of limitations for child support (http://www.child-support-collections.com/statutes/florida.html)

Since they have completed High School, then at 18 you can stop paying. I would pay for the month they turn 18. I would inform their mother, that you will cease sending payments after that. Cite the code sections listed on that page.
