Without warning, my Maytag ice maker (Unit #12685007) filled up the ice bucket and the bottom of the freezer with water. It did not over fill to the point where water went all over the floor, but there was a solid 5lb block of ice in the ice tray.

I thawed the freezer and removed all the ice. Turned the freezer back on and the ice maker does not appear to be working anymore. What gives?

Unit is 18 months old and freezer is located on the bottom.

MICHIGAN - I believe that if you checked the water intake valve on the back of the fridge ,at the bottom of fridge you will find it to be bad, when it first would not shut the water off ,that was over for it . It is not hard to change and put a new one on :: #1 - CHECK FOR ICE WHERE THE WATER COMES IN < IF its froze up use a hair dryer to melt the ice , Check this problem first , THIS ALSO COULD BE THE PROBLEM
Pull the refridge out so that you can get in behind and work on it . When you are on the backside of the refridg ,down on the bottom right side is where you will find the water valce.:: #2 - take the cardboard cover off and set aside , look down and you will see the valve .#3 ( NOTE Before YOU TAQKE ANY THING OFF , Go to wher the water line is hooked up ( Most of the time it is hooked up under the kitchen sink , it may be hookedup permetly or it may be hooked up to a brass saddle to the cold water line ;; If it's a saddle then there is a very small brass pin going threw the thing , TAKE AND TURN THE LITTLE PIN CLOCKWISE TO FULL OFF ) YOu will havwe a very little water in the line at the fridge, #4 - take the name and model number and the serial number , Write it down and take it with you to get a new water valve, Or remember how the wires go back and also take the water valve wiyh you also to get a new one Call the Maytag dealer and ask him if he has a new one in stock, Save gas and time , If he don't then ask him who does their appliance work and get his phine number and cakll him to see if he has one , if neither one does and it has to be orderded then you will probably have to wait a couple days :: When you get the part #5- Pull the power cord out of the receptical << REmove the two wires from the water valve < Now take the clear plastiic pipe off the valve, take the screws that holds it in place out ::: NOW replace the water valve the way you took it out , ITS REALLY a lot easier to hook the water line back up before putting the valve back in :: once you have it back in place hook the wires back on to it Plug the power cord back in :: IT is useally about 18 to 24 hrs before it starts making ice ; throw the first batch away :: Now you can loosen the water line a little bit and let the air out of the line ( OH TURN THE WATER BACK ON UNDER THE SINK ) If you let the air and a little water come on out it will save time to making ice :: Good luck and have a good day and GOD BLESS ;; F,B,E,
